From the moment I bought the 2725 Bright Pink I wanted to make a watermelon. Voila!
Stitches/skills needed:
SC - single crochet
SL - slip stitich
CH - chain
PS - pattern stitch (explanation further down)
2SC - increase
SC2TOG - decrease
working in-the-round (as opposed to spirals)
To make this I used Patons 100% Cotton DK in the colours:
-2725 Bright Pink
-2712 Black
-2691 White
-2205 Apple Green
1.5mm steel crochet hook
needle to stitch it up in the end
ring to attach it to a key chain
(Use whatever colours you want and whatever size hook you need.)
Notes:
1) At the END of every round, join with a slip stitch.
2) At the BEGINNING of every round, chain 1 and then start the row in the same stitch that you did the slip stitch from the previous row in.
3) Pattern stitch: all of the pattern stitches in this are in these colours. You start with the single pink loop on your hook. Stick your hook under both loops and pull up a black loop. Now the loop closest to your fingers is pink, and the farthest form your fingers is black. Yarn over with pink, and pull it through. shazam. done. move on to the next bit of the pattern with your pretty pink yarn. Dunno if it's a real stitch. I got it from NeedleNoodles, and it makes me happy. If her tutorial is better substitute almond for pink and red for black.
PINK
start with a magic ring, or the 2sc or however you want.
Round 1) SC 6 into a magic ring. (6sts)
Round 2) 2SC into each ST around. (12sts)
Round 3) *PS with black/pink first ST, 2SC (pink) into next st* repeat around. (18st)
Round 4) *Sc into the next 2 SC, 2SC into next 2SC. (24st)
Round 5) *PS with black/pink first ST, SC with pink, PS with black/pink, 2SC (pink) into next st* repeat around. (30st)
Round 6) *SC into the next 4 ST, 2SC* repeat around. (36st)
WHITE
Round 7) *SC into the next 5 ST, 2SC* repeat around. (42st)
GREEN
Round 8) *SC into the next 6 ST, 2SC* repeat around. (48st)
Finish off.
Weave in the green tail. dont bother weaving in the others, as you won't see them anyway.
Fold in half and make sure the 2SCs line up. Stitch together with green back and forth under the top loops one direction, and then go back the other direction to prevent it from being all wiggley.
Attach a metal ring at one corner if you want.
