Teeny Vacant Drone Pattern

The photo doesn't do it justice. I was at my in-laws this weekend and was just doodling around making bits of bodies. I came home and attached a head and a body and then stitched on a face, and, somehow he has turned out strangely endearing in a very simple way.

His neck will be a bit squishy so you can bend his head up or down or cock it to the side to have him looking a little inquisitive.

Approx 2.5" tall.
I wrote this pattern in joined rounds, but see no reason it should fail if worked a spiral. I find that joined rounds look neater, but whatever works for you is fine.

Materials:
- lighter head color yarn
- darker torso color yarn
- 2x 3/4 mm eyes (beads/safety eyes/whatever)
- light filling (polyfill)
- (optional) heavier filling (peas/plastic pellets)
- black thread to attach eyes/stitch mouth

Tools:
- 3.5 hook(or whatever you need to achieve a nice tight finish
- sewing needle for stitching on eyes/mouth details
- darning needle for stitching parts together
- (optional) stitch markers

Stitches:
- sc: single crochet
- 2sc in next st: stitch 2 single crochets into a single stitch (increase)
- sc2tog: join 2 stitches together with one single crochet (decrease)

head
1) magic ring, 6 SC around (6 st)
2) 2sc into each st around (12 st)
3) {sc, 2sc in next st} repeat 5 more times around (18st)
4) {sc, sc, 2 sc into next st} repeat 5 more times around (24st)
5 -8) sc around (24 st each row / 96 total)
9) {sc, sc, sc2tog} repeat 5 more times around (18st)
10) {sc, sc2tog} repeat 5 more times around (12st)

Stuff firmly with light filling.
Finish off and leave a long tail for stitching.

Add eyes 6 stitches apart between rows 5 and 8. Stitch a straight line mouth between rows 7 and 8 about the same width as the mouth. Use photo as a placement guide. Weave in ends of mouth stitching if you want, or tie together to secure and leave them lose for zombie drool.

Torso
1) magic ring, 7 SC around (7 st)
2) 2sc into each st around (14 st)
3) {sc, 2sc in next st} repeat 6 more times around (21st)
4 - 5) sc around (21 st each / 42 st total)
6) {sc, sc2tog} repeat 6 more times around (14st)
7 - 9) sc around (14 st each / 42 st total)
10) 2 sc, sc2tog, 6 sc, sc2tog, 2sc (12 st)

Stuff with heavier filling (or very firmly with lighter filling if you don't have heavy filling)
Fininsh off.

Align the finishing points of the head and torso and stitch together.

MEATY MEAT!

Oh I just finished my super meat boy

Segue
Meat -> food -> holy hell Ive been eating a LOT lately. Now, I'm not complaining about being fat like most girls do these days - I weigh in at a constant buck five at 5'4" - but I've been packing away the food lately. Don't know what's up with that. Perhaps I need to get down to writing some crochet food patterns instead of stuffing my face with it. Tell me, what do you think I can make from light blue, watermelon pink, apple green, grape purple, black and white. Do not say grapes or apples. I'd like to attempt to achieve something more complex than a bunch of spheres. And Its not like I can get a lot of inspiration from the food I'm eating, which is mostly yoghurt with fruit and granola (read: carbs and sugar).. maybe I should make a dragon fruit... too bad it would be hard to write the pattern. I have an idea of how i do it, but writing "fudge this" isn't really good instructions..

Or perhaps i should just make some more zombies.

tell me what kind of zombies you want me to make. people zombies? cat zombies? bunny zombies? food zombies? Yeah, I just said food zombies. Add a bit of splash of gore, a smattering of decay, and a penchant of brains, and anything can be zombified.

Other things that are lurking in the cobwebs of my brain are the feline forces of good and evil: Ceiling cat and basement cat. And somewhere on the horizon I swear I see long cat and a tacgnol duking it out for supremacy.

Seriously, if you have any ideas fr what you'd like zombified or any foods or any lolz you'd like me to crochet, let me know.

And that stitch marker tutorial is coming soon. Start stockpiling little safety pins, 2 pairs of pliers and all the nail polish you can find. We are gonna have fun. As soon as my brain recovers from all the nail polish fumes :S

Pointing Out the Obvious

Hi guys, as you may have deduced with your epic powers of observation, a.k.a. basic reading skills, I've chosen a name. Let's see how it sticks.

Tomorrow or the next day, I hope to write up a tutorial on the easiest stitch markers ever for crochet (no not a piece of string)

I'm also working on my mini zombie pattern, and I have a few other ideas up my sleeve.

I'm currently crocheting some cute stuff too. Can't wait!

Blogging from bed rules.

Possible name ideas

-The living thread, the blog of the living thread, (i like zombies and intend to make many yarney zombies)
-Knitwit (my husband thinks he is clever)(i can't knit)
-Digitalgurumi (derivative of digitalgraffiti, my other website
-Amegurumi (my name is meg)
-The Wiggly String (Marion likes wiggly string)

Help me with ideas.  I like cute things. Nerdy things. Dead things. Cats. Internet memes.  Halp!

Tiny Watermelon!

From the moment I bought the 2725 Bright Pink I wanted to make a watermelon. Voila!

Stitches/skills needed:
SC - single crochet
SL - slip stitich
CH - chain
PS - pattern stitch (explanation further down)
2SC - increase
SC2TOG - decrease
working in-the-round (as opposed to spirals)

To make this I used Patons 100% Cotton DK in the colours:
-2725 Bright Pink
-2712 Black
-2691 White
-2205 Apple Green
1.5mm steel crochet hook
needle to stitch it up in the end
ring to attach it to a key chain

(Use whatever colours you want and whatever size hook you need.)

Notes:

1) At the END of every round, join with a slip stitch.
2) At the BEGINNING of every round, chain 1 and then start the row in the same stitch that you did the slip stitch from the previous row in.
3) Pattern stitch: all of the pattern stitches in this are in these colours. You start with the single pink loop on your hook. Stick your hook under both loops and pull up a black loop. Now the loop closest to your fingers is pink, and the farthest form your fingers is black. Yarn over with pink, and pull it through. shazam. done. move on to the next bit of the pattern with your pretty pink yarn. Dunno if it's a real stitch. I got it from NeedleNoodles, and it makes me happy. If her tutorial is better substitute almond for pink and red for black.

PINK
start with a magic ring, or the 2sc or however you want.
Round 1) SC 6 into a magic ring. (6sts)
Round 2) 2SC into each ST around. (12sts)
Round 3) *PS with black/pink first ST, 2SC (pink) into next st* repeat around. (18st)
Round 4) *Sc into the next 2 SC, 2SC into next 2SC. (24st)
Round 5) *PS with black/pink first ST, SC with pink, PS with black/pink, 2SC (pink) into next st* repeat around. (30st)
Round 6) *SC into the next 4 ST, 2SC* repeat around. (36st)
WHITE
Round 7) *SC into the next 5 ST, 2SC* repeat around. (42st)
GREEN
Round 8) *SC into the next 6 ST, 2SC* repeat around. (48st)
Finish off.

Weave in the green tail. dont bother weaving in the others, as you won't see them anyway.

Fold in half and make sure the 2SCs line up. Stitch together with green back and forth under the top loops one direction, and then go back the other direction to prevent it from being all wiggley.

Attach a metal ring at one corner if you want.

taa daa!
